Quick Start

On first launch, the Mac App Store version asks you to choose an index directory — the folder Liuer will index and search. After you pick it, Liuer starts indexing in the background. You’ll see the indexing progress in the bottom bar.

The current index directory is shown at the bottom-right of the status bar. Click it to pick a different index directory and re-index.

Once indexing completes (usually under 2 minutes), you’re ready to search.

Type a filename or keyword in the search bar. Results appear instantly as you type.

Toggle between match modes in the left sidebar’s search settings:

  • All Match (always active by default): Files must contain ALL keywords
  • Any Match: Enable via the dropdown menu — files contain ANY keyword
  • Exclude: Enable via the dropdown menu — files must NOT contain specified keywords

Each mode has its own input field for entering multiple keywords.

Narrow results using the filter panel in the left sidebar:

  • Entry Type: Upper section — choose All, Folder, or File
  • File Types: Lower section — filter by category: Video, Audio, Archive, Document, Image, Code, and more
  • Size: Greater than, less than, or a range
  • Date: Modified or created date ranges
  • Path: Limit search to specific directories

Click any column header (Name, Path, Size, Modified, Created) to sort by that column. Click again to toggle between ascending and descending order.

  • Double-click or press Enter to open the file
  • Right-click for context menu (Open, Reveal in Finder, Copy Path, etc.)
  • Press Space for Quick Look preview

Content search lets you find text inside files — not just filenames. This is a Pro feature.

Click the ScanSearch icon at the bottom of the left panel to switch to content search mode.

Type your keywords in the content search area of the left panel. Three toggle buttons beside the input let you enable Case Sensitive, Whole Word, or Regex. Search starts automatically as you type, or press Enter to trigger it immediately.

Liuer displays matching files with:

  • Match count per file
  • Individual matches with line numbers
  • Surrounding context for each match

Click any match to open the file at that exact line in your editor.

Press ⌥⌘J (Option+Command+J) from anywhere to quickly show or hide the Liuer window.
