Installation

  • macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later
  • Apple Silicon or Intel Mac
  • ~100 MB disk space for the app
  • Additional space for the file index (varies by filesystem size)

You can download Liuer from either of the following sources:

Visit the Liuer homepage and click the download button to get the standalone DMG. On first launch, you’ll need to grant Full Disk Access.

Download on the Mac App Store

After installation, launch Liuer from your Applications folder or via Spotlight.

If you downloaded from the Mac App Store, Liuer runs in a sandboxed environment. On first launch, you’ll be asked to choose an index directory:

  1. Click Select in the welcome panel to open the standard macOS file picker
  2. Choose any folder you want to search — for example, your home directory or a project folder
  3. Liuer indexes files under that directory, and all file and content search results are scoped to it

Your selection is remembered, so you only need to do this once. To index a different directory later, click the index directory shown at the bottom-right of the status bar to switch.

For the standalone distribution (outside the Mac App Store), Liuer requires Full Disk Access to build a complete search index:

  1. Launch Liuer — it will detect that Full Disk Access is not enabled and prompt you
  2. Click Open System Settings in the prompt panel
  3. You’ll be taken directly to Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access, where Liuer is already listed
  4. Toggle the switch on for Liuer
  5. Return to Liuer to continue

When you first launch Liuer, it begins indexing your files automatically in the background (in the App Store version, indexing starts after you choose an index directory):

  • Initial indexing typically takes 1–2 minutes, depending on your filesystem size
  • You can start searching as soon as the index is ready
  • The index updates automatically via file system monitoring
